Every so often I’m going to enter Ronovan’s Haiku Challenge. When I do, I’ll put my efforts in this post, most recent ones at the top.
No. 74 Wolf & Cake
‘What big teeth you have.’
She gives Wolf a piece of cake.
‘Have a bite of this.’December evening
Light slips between dog and wolf
Hoarfrost cakes each twig.
N0. 73 Black & White
White roses stand tall
Their fair heads bathed in sunlight
Cast a black shadow.Six for gold; counting
Tidings out in black and white
I shall stick at two.Black and white the text
A truth so plain and simple
Lies between the lines.
No. 70 Crane & Gold
Cranes on the rooftop
Good luck, they say, and fortune
Now the year turns gold.Rich men dream of gold
Cranes rising o’er the skyline
Building rich men’s dreams.
No. 66 Pine & Grief
Beside the stream pines
Echo love unrequited
Fading in her grief.Does she pine? you ask
Well, I hear her hair has turned
Quite gold from her grief.
(with apologies to Oscar Wilde)
No. 65 Harp & Clear
Harp and carp, Thomas,
From a tongue that cannot lie
Truth runs deep and clearOh, don’t harp on so
Your mind’s clear by now, you know:
If it matters, Go!
No. 64: Flesh & Tide
A finger of foam
Points idly cross the tideline
Water taking fleshWords create substance
Rising tides of images
Take flesh in your mind

If you like haiku, these are beauties. As you’d expect from this particular writer.
